US Climate-change bill loses a crucial supporter

Washingtonfree_smallIn the lead up to the Copenhagen climate change summit in December, President Barack Obama is backing a hotly debated bill for climate change. With the senate vote still to come, the death of Senator Edward Kennedy takes away one of its stronger supporters.

This bill has faced strong opposition and it could be said will need all the support it can get from key environmental supporters in the US. Edward Kennedy was a popular statesman and a strong champion of the environment and, as such, his support will be sorely missed.

The possibility of rising sea levels is as good as a fact. The president of Maldives, Mohammed Nasheed, has already searched for new land for the 360 000 inhabitants of his country, out of concern that Maldives might be submersed by the rising sea brought about by climate change.
