California follows the EU It's official: the State of California has successfully sold CO2 emissions certificates. In doing so, it follows in the footsteps of the EU. While California's cap-and-trade system is less ambitious than the EU's, it is nevertheless the second largest in the world.
Bankers manipulating energy prices The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is going after banks manipulating energy prices. They have now threatened Barclays with a record fine. But they also have Deutsche Bank in their sights. The affected banks categorically reject all charges.
Greenpeace warns of a nuclear disaster in Sweden Greenpeace warns that Sweden could be facing a nuclear disaster and is calling for the immediate shutdown of all three Vattenfall nuclear power plants. All three have experienced repeated incidents and near-misses. Yet Sweden continues to increase their capacity.
Lithuanians say “no” to nuclear power Lithuanian citizens have voted against the construction of a new nuclear power plant. In the parliamentary elections that were held at the same time, Prime Minister and nuclear power advocate Kubilius was punished, with his party receiving just under 13 per cent of the vote.
