Giant tortoise "Lonesome George" has died and another species is now extinct

Lonesome George, the 100-year-old, world-famous Galapagos giant tortoise who became the symbol of the richly diverse Galapagos Islands, has died.

Rivalling the world's smallest reptiles

chameleon_on_matchGerman and American scientists have discovered four new species of dwarf chameleons in Madagascar, the smallest of which reaches only 24 mm in length and is one of the smallest known reptile species in the world. However, the species are highly threatened by deforestation.

The Hessisches Landesmuseum in Darmstadt, Germany reports on the discovery of these tiny chameleons.
